A full-time job should cover rent, food and a little saved for the future. In too many of our communities it no longer does.
The gap we are closing
Since 2010, median rent in the region has risen by 61 percent while the median hourly wage rose 23 percent. Families have filled that gap with second jobs, longer commutes and credit.
Our agenda
- A regional minimum wage indexed to local costs, reviewed every two years.
- Predictable scheduling: two weeks of notice, and pay when a shift is cancelled late.
- Portable benefits for gig and part-time workers, funded by every platform that hires them.
- Apprenticeships that pay from day one, co-designed with employers and unions.
What we have already won
In 2025, our coalition helped pass a fair-scheduling ordinance covering 48,000 retail and food-service workers. We now track compliance with a public dashboard and a confidential tip line.
