About the Alliance
Who we are
The Civica Alliance began in 1998 as a residents’ association in a single county. Today we are 60,000 members and 180 partner organisations in 212 towns and cities. We are funded mostly by small monthly gifts, and we are governed by a volunteer board elected by our members.
We are nonpartisan by rule, not by habit. Our bylaws forbid endorsing candidates or parties, and our board includes members of every major party and of none.

Our history
1998
Forty neighbours win back a polling place the county closed without notice. The residents’ association that organised them becomes the Alliance.
2004
Volunteers publish a non-partisan guide to local races, translated into three languages and delivered door to door.
2011
Four trade unions and two faith networks join, and the Alliance takes on fair scheduling and wages.
2018
The first annual member vote on priorities. 9,000 members take part.
2023
Residents in nine districts write their own heat and flood plans and present them to council.
2026
A second weekend of early voting and automatic registration become law after eight years of testimony.
