Our town hall on housing costs filled the hall and the overflow room. Renters, homeowners, landlords and builders stayed for three hours.
We asked everyone to write one sentence on a card: the housing problem that worries them most. The most common answers were rents rising faster than wages, long waits for repairs, and young people unable to stay in the town where they grew up.
Council members heard every card read aloud. Three of them committed to co-sponsor a tenant repair ordinance, and the mayor agreed to publish the city’s vacant-property list for the first time.
The full list of commitments, and who made them, is on our housing tracker. We will report back on each one in December.
